Alms Dish

Nuremberg, early 16th c.

Brass. Decorated with Gothic rose, an early feature, as is the style of leaf punched around the rim. The meaningless band of Gothic text is the same group of letters stamped four times, with small knobs between to align the punches. There's a lot to interest you here. Prov: from a meticulously curated private New England collection. Ingenious hanger devised by the collector so as not to compromise the brass. Good condition, back cleaned, no restoration.
