Nuremberg, 1525-50

Brass. Deeply embossed scene of the Annunciation with Mary at a prayer desk and the archangel. The rays falling upon her from the dove (the Holy Spirit) symbolize the impregnation of the Virgin by God. The scene surrounded by gothic script that consists of a quadrant repeated four times to form a circle. The painting is by the Master of the Munich St Mary, 1445-50. White lily (aka Madonna Lily) symbolized the virgin Mary -- purity and chastity. Previous suspension holes filled, suspension loop fitted. Small cracks made during the original embossing.
