Candleholder

Irish or English, 1700-1725

Wrought iron. High quality blacksmithing; fine, thin ironwork on base with typical twist decoration. Socket with ejection slot fitted into stem. Old, pitted surface. The conical holder suggests an early date, the circular iron base is typical of Ireland, but the fine quality of the work suggests England. Not many of these around. This one came from what has been called "the best lighting collection in England." Good original condition, no restoration.

9"h, 4-1/2" diam base.
