Northwest England, 1680-1700

Oak. Simple country backstool, with no bells or whistles, but as honest as the day is long. It has a lively crest, a nice fielded back panel, and a molded seat. Common at the end of the 17th century, collectible and affordable today. Unusual crest with pierced S-scrolls over back with central panel Thumbnail-molded, boarded seat Block and turned base with turned front stretcher Reinfoced under seat. No restoration.
