Rushnip and Candleholder

Irish, 17th century

Wrought iron. If you ever wanted proof that something was "blacksmith made," just look at the base of this rushnip: it's formed from two old horse shoes! This is a good early nip, with great surface, lots of tool marks and a truly "rustic" character. Rushnip and candleholder bases that were made of iron rings, instead of turned wood, often indicate an Irish origin. Good original condition.

14"h, 5-1/4" diam base.
