Four-Lugged Quaich

Scottish, 1660-1690

Sycamore. Four-handled quaichs (pronounced "quakes") are extremely rare. Was this four-lugged model used to pass the whisky around four friends? Decorated with turned rings and two willow bindings, one just below the rim and the other below the lugs. The decoration is of the plain style and local wood that is typical of work from the Highlands. Rich color and patination. Sycamore does not taint drink or food. Good original condition with deep patina.

Bowl 3-3/4" diam, 6" across lugs, 2-3/8" h.
