Pair of Medieval Hair Shears

English, 14th/15th c.

Iron. Medieval haircut? Possibly used by a professional barber-surgeon or in a monastery or nunnery. They still have some spring in the handle and a bit of a cutting edge. Mundane tools such as this rarely survive. Medieval art often shows Delilah cutting Sampson's hair with shears like these. Excavated from the Thames in 1978, in a private collection ever since. Good excavated condition.

5" long.
