Medieval Floor Tile

English, 1400-1475

Earthenware. Slip decorated with a bold lion rampant and Prince of Wales feathers in the corners. Probably made on the Welsh border in the Severn Valley for a monastery. Traces of original lime mortar. Warm red tint to glaze. From an English collection, bought well and thus offered at below market value. Good condition with minor glaze chips, no restoration.

5-1/2" square.
