Mote Spoon

English, London, c. 1720

Sterling Silver. Mote spoons were used to skim tea leaves (motes) floating in the cup. The spear-ended finial cleared the spout of the teapot from c leaves clogging it. Tea before tea bags! Marks almost indecipherable, possibly those of Geo. Squire. Mote spoons were uniquely English and were all made in London. Good condition, no restoration.

5-3/8" l.
