Early Mote Spoon

English, London, 1700-1717

Britannia Silver. Mote spoons were used to skim tea leaves (motes) floating in the cup. The spear-ended finial cleared the spout of the teapot from any leaves clogging it. Tea before tea bags! Marks indecipherable. Mote spoons were uniquely English and were all made in London. Good condition, no restoration.
