Counting House Bowl

English, mid-17th c.

Oak. Made to rest on a slant-front desk in a counting house, where it would have been used to count coins. Counting house bowls were shallow with smooth interiors so that coins could be scooped out easily: the interior shows wear consistent with such a use. Attractively carved face with Four pinwheels on a matted surface. Good, old color and patination. Good condition, no restoration.

5-1/4" x 3-3/8" x 3" h at max.
