Medieval Rosewater Bowl

Dutch, 1500-1550

Brass. If you're imposing you don't need to be pretty. Beautifully made, heavy bowl with stepped rim and a running dovetailed joint between bottom and booge. No decorative frou-frous at all, just a large, perfectly proportioned bowl. Rosewater bowls were used for washing the hands between the courses of a meal, and, we now believe, more frequently than that. Teeny tiny rim split, otherwise excellent condition. No restoration.

15-3/4" diam, 4" deep.
