Medieval Serving Jug.

English, c. 1550

Bronze. A good 16th-century utilitarian piece, crude not fancy. Clear signs of the pottery mold for the casting and a brazenly brazed joint! The rounded base shows it was not to be set down -- the servant was continuously filling the cups and goblets and replenishing the jug from the barrel. Sold by us 14 years ago and just repurchased from the collection. Plenty of dents acquired over its many, many years of use. Good condition, no restoration.
