Medieval Stoneware Jug

German, Siegburg, c. 1390

Unglazed stoneware. One of the taller ones. Ringed body, thumbed base. Potter's spiral marks where he pulled the jug into shape. Similar example in Museum Boymans-van Beuningen, Rotterdam, dated 1375-1400. Ex Frank Cowan collection. Excellent original condition, one tiny chip, no restoration.
