Serving Jug

English, 1550-1600

Bronze. A fat-bellied serving jug, with the fattest of bellies -- larger, heavier and more impressive than most. Cast in two halves with clear join around the middle. The rounded base shows it was not to be set down -- the servant was continuously filling glasses and replenishing the jug from the barrel. Double the capacity of most jugs -- obviously a thirsty household. Good original condition. No repairs or restorations

7-1/4" h. x 7-1/2" diam.
