Sharpening Steel

English, mid-18th c.

Brass, steel. Quite a talking point: a steel for sharpening a large knife for carving a buttock of beef! How do we know it's for beef -- look at the cast decoration on the handle: That ain't no chicken. A rare, beautifully made item. Make a couple of flashy swipes with it as you prepare to carve the turkey next Thanksgiving. Excellent original condition.

13-3/4" long.
