Tiny Taperstick

Spanish, 1675-1700

Bronze. Delightful little taperstick, a perfect miniature of its big brother candlestick! Look at it beside that huge ale bottle -- we brew 'em big in Ipswich! Suppressed dome foot on a petal base, baluster stem, nozzle with rings top and bottom. Sweet little thing. Tapers were small wax candles used for melting the wax to seal correspondence, and for lighting pipes of tobacco or other candles. They were also used as go-to-beds where little light was needed. Very good condition, no restoration.
